TPS2373-4EVM-758: What is the purpose of Q6 and D18

Part Number: TPS2373-4EVM-758
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2372-4EVM-006

Hello,

Can you explain the purpose of Q6 and D18? If I would like to use FDM8205 (active bridge) to simplify the

schematic, should I keep Q6 & D18 , R13 as well as Q18? There is no DC adaptor input for my design.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Ben,

If using the discrete FET bridge like in TPS2373-4EVM-758, Q6,D18, and R13 are needed even if you don't have a DC adapter. It is the biasing circuitry for the low side gate drive circuit. R67, Q18, C66, L8/9 can be removed is you don't have an adapter.

If you would like to use a discrete FET bridge like in TPS2372-4EVM-006, then you can copy the same design from the EVM. If there is no adapter, then you do not have to use R15/16/17/18, and Q6/5.

Lastly, my recommendation is to use the FDM8205A version, since this is a 100V IC. It will be more robust.
