LP2992: Question about its functionality and discontinuity

Part Number: LP2992

Hello,

In my company we have been using LP2992AIM5-5.0/NOPB as a regulator in an equipment we have been producing for more than 5 years. In the last batch we have produced we had to deal with a problem with this part: It worked fine at the beginning, but in a random lapse of time mostly of them were giving 7.8 VDC instead of 5 VDC (It is feeded with 10 VDC). We have never known the reason of this issue.

Now I have seen that this part is discontinued in some dealers. was there any problem with this part, and for that reason it was discontinued? i would be very grateful if you could tell me, because we have had lot of problems with this part.

Thank you in advance,

Carlos López Cernuda

  • Hi Carlos,

I am sorry to hear you are having an issue. Without having the parts sent in for failure analysis, it is difficult to speculate on why you have seen failures. Do you have a local sales contact to submit devices for failure analysis?

To answer your question, the reason this is seen is discontinued from certain distributors is that we have consolidated the number of distributors we work with. You can now order directly from Ti.com or Digikey and Mouser currently have stock.

    I hope this helps.
