LM5119: Currnet Balancing with LM5119?

Part Number: LM5119

Hi,

my assigned customer wants to use LM5119 in this configuration:

dual phase, Vin = 18V..60V, Vout = 12V, I_load_cont = 12A, I_peak = 16A

They tested the EVM and noticed, that the current in both phases differs  a lot.  Measuered with a eYinem RMS-Multimeter at the sense resistor of the FET, the discrepancy is 12%. Is there any material adressing current balancing? Or is there any tweak or process my customer can follow to change that?

Kind regards,

Marion

  • Hi Marion,

The current imbalance is mainly caused by the variation of input offset of current sense amplifier.

Increasing sensing resistor value helps to reduce the impact of input offset, hence improve current sharing.

The 12% discrepancy between two phase is 1.44A, which is not too bad to me.

If there is no thermal issue on FET or inductor, it should be fine to let the converter work with a certain of current imbalance.

    Thanks

    Qian
