TPS65094: TPS650945A BUCK Frequency Rang

Part Number: TPS65094

Hi Team,

Do we have the specific working frequency range of TPS65094A BUCK? Our customer test the SW node of BUCK 6, the frequency is up to 2.77MHz, and they have the concern that this may cause some problem to the IC and they'd like to know the exact range frequency range of TPS65094A BUCK. Could you please give some comments on that?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Livia,

Is an ATX power supply being used to power the PMIC? Is VSYS being supplied with 12V in this case? This is a higher switching frequency than I would expect in that case but powering VSYS with 12V and the buck controllers with 5V has an impact on switching freqeuncy. What is the switching frequency of the other bucks?

    Best regards,

    Layne J

  • Hi Layne,

VSYS is powered with 12V and buck controller is 5V in customer's use. For the requency of other bucks, please refer to the table below.

Do we have the frequency limit range of the bucks? And will this large frequency cause any issue to the IC itself?

Thanks so much for the support.

    Best Regards,

    Livia

  • Hi Livia,

I have done some review on the design of this device and it seems like those switching frequencies should not be a problem. I am planning to test a similar set up on a TPS65094x EVM by the end of the day Friday to see what the switching frequency would be. I will update you after I perform the test on Friday.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Layne,

Thanks for the great support and waiting for your good news.

  • Hi Livia,

I tested the EVM using a 5V supply for the controllers and a 12V supply for VSYS and the highest switching frequency I saw was around 2 MHz. It seems like applying a load caused a shift in the frequency from 1.7 MHz at no load to around 2 MHz at a 7 amp load on buck 6. I included a screenshot of this below.

When your customer is measuring their switching frequency is it at a high load? Can you provide me a schematic for further review?

    Best regards,

    Layne J

  • Hi Layne,

Please refer to the table below for test frequency and load condition.

For the schematic, I'll send it to you through email.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Livia,

Thank you for sending me the schematic. I am going to close this thread and continue our conversation through email.
