BQ25713: ILIM_HIZ & EN_OTG

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi

i want to pullup ILIM_HIZ pin with a resistor to 3.3v and config system from REG32[7]=0 and REG0x0F/0E in order to set current limit and also connect ILIM_HIZ to my host pin in order to be able to set it low when is necessary (because ILIM_HIZ pin as also related to HighZ mode)

my questions are:

1- is there any problem with design ?

2- what is difference if i leave ILIM_HIZ float ?

3- what is difference if i pull up with VDDA instead of V+3.3 ?

4- is there any contentious current to the pin (system is battery base and CT current is not good) ? is it too much?

5- how can i disable ILIM_HIZ pin ?

and about OTG/VAP mode pin i want to connect host and IC pins as below:

i need VAP mode because the load is a motor that can cause voltage picks when start and not interested in OTG mode.

as i understood from datasheet VAP mode is only when system is powered by batteries.

my questions are:

1- can i control VAP mode using this method?

  • Hi There,

1- is there any problem with design ?

It is ok, but we recommend to use charger LDO REGN for this application instead of external 3.3V LDO to achieve this function. Because 3.3V pull up highest level is reflected to 5.75A IDPM which doesn't cover the whole input current range 6.35A.

2- what is difference if i leave ILIM_HIZ float ?

Can't float ILIM_HIZ, because by default IDPM limit is set by the lower value of ILIM_HIZ pin and REG0x0F/0E, floating ILIM_HIZ pin may result in weird IDPM setting.

3- what is difference if i pull up with VDDA instead of V+3.3 ?

We recommend to use charger LDO REGN for this application instead of external 3.3V LDO to achieve this function. Because 3.3V pull up highest level is reflected to 5.75A IDPM which doesn't cover the whole input current range 6.35A.

4- is there any contentious current to the pin (system is battery base and CT current is not good) ? is it too much?

ILIM_HIZ is signal input pin, holds high input impedence, in datasheet the maximum and minimum leakage current can be controlled within +-1uA shown below.

    5- how can i disable ILIM_HIZ pin ?

For input current limit set function you can disable it through configuring REG32H[7]=0. For HIZ mode enable function it can't be disabled.

6- can i control VAP mode using this method?

It is recommended to pull up EN_VAP pin to 3.3V  instead of pulling down GND, I assume the output signal type of host is open drain.

By the way, for your information, VAP mode is defined for Intel CPU based application to help pass CPU fast transient system demand shown below. I believe motor application should hold much longer load transient profile comparing to CPU application. Therefore VAP mode may show limit benefit for motor application.
