TLV431A: what is Operating virtual junction temperature

Part Number: TLV431A

Hi, Team.

in its datasheet , it has Operating virtual junction temperature.

i know IC might have damage if Tj is over than 150℃

but I haven't heard Operating virtual junction temperature.

Q1.what would you want to say in Operating "virtual" junction temperature

does it mean that it can't be measured Tj directly so , we use "virtual"?

Q2.how to calc the Power Dissipation ?

  • Hi Mashaharu

Operating "virtual" junction temperature refers to die temperature. It will depend on VKA (cathode voltage) , IKA (cathode current) , RθJA (Junction-to-ambient thermal resistance {Table 6.4}) of the package. It is calculated as -

TJ = TA + VKA * IKA * RθJA   (TA = Ambient temperature)

TJ should not be more than 150C for the device for normal operation.
