LP5521: LP5521YQ/NOPB usage for coin cell applications

Hi,

I am planning to use a RGB LED for indicating 3 different states in my product, which is powered by a coin cell battery.

I have 2 questions for LP5521YQ/NOPB:

1) Is LP5521YQ/NOPB suitable for coin cell powered applications.Is Mosfet driver LEDs a superior approach?

2) Can I control individual R/G or B LED, hence the color status, based on the I2C command sent from uC.

Hi Jagbir,

1) What is the coin cell battery type you used? Vcc of LP5521 is minimum to 2.7V so I think Lithium battery can be support.

2) Yes every channel can be controlled independently

The coin cell battery size is CR2032, which is boosted to 3.3V . Battery life is critical to my design.Considering this fact, can LP5521 drive the RGB LED "VLMRGB6112" without using charge pump which consume more current. My Vcc is 3.3V and the typical Vf for this LED are 2V,3V and 3.1V.

Hi Jagbir,

Saturation voltage for output current source is maximum 100mV so I think it is OK to drive your LEDs without charge pump.
