BQ24072: Charger without battery

Im using BQ24072 and EN1=EN2=LO,

In case where there is no battery connected, the charger is connected and current consumption is over 100mA

Can the BQ24072 get damaged?

Hi Ido,

Can you show the input current waveform when you plug the power in? Do you also have a schematic that I can reference?

I will ask in a differnet way:

What happens to VOUT when charger connected and no battery? can the the charger get damaged?

In my case no battery connected and charger is connected, when the current is ~30mA Vout is steady but when it is over 80mA it drops

Hello,

If the load is higher than 100mA, the output voltage will crash and the device will enter output short circuit recovery. This will continue until either the input current limit is increased or the load is reduced.

That I saw, But will it damaged the battery charger?

Hi Ido,

it is not recommended to keep the device in output short circuit recovery mode as the device will attempt to restart the output continuously until the load is decreased. As this is not optimal operation for the device, we cannot guarantee the device will not be damaged.
