PTN78060W: Thermal Modelling

Hi Guys,

Good day.

Our customer wants an accurate thermal model for the PTN78060W module. Given his electrical operating constraints he had determined that the maximum power dissipation that the device will exhibit is ~1.5W. He needs to know if the 1.5W will be dissipated by the component itself or will it be dissipated across a few components on that board's surface?

Also, he is asking if it’s possible for us to provide him with any information like a basic wiring schematic for the board and/or major component part numbers that are on the assembly. If we could give him any of that information he could determine power dissipation on those components given the loads they’re putting on them.

Hi Art,

It will be dissipated across the components on the board's surface. We identify the key thermal components of the device (ex. Power FETs, Inductor, etc.). The Temperature derating vs output current curves in the datasheet specify the output current for the application condition (ambient temperature, input and output voltage).

I will get back to you as soon as possible on the information requested. I don't think we can share that information.

With regards to the information requested, i do hope it's available, but if in case this can't be shared, i hope
there are still something of an alternative that we can provide for the customer to work on.
