TLC59581: Using TLC5958x/TLC6946 for a Black and white LED matrix?

Part Number: TLC59581
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59582, TLC5957, TLC5958, TLC6946, TLC59283

Team,

1) Do we have some guidelines/advises/examples to use TLC59582/TLC59581/TLC5957 for a BW (ie black and white) 8x32 Matrix?

-Can 1 single device be used? For example can the OUTRx and OUTGx be used for different BW channels? Can more than 16 Ch be used for BW (by re-using different OUTRx and OUTGx)? If yes do you have examples/guidelines?

2) TLC694x:
I assume that for BW LED martrix the TLC694x is more suited than TLC5958x?

What would be the differences in using TLC694x vs TLC5958x for a 8x32 BW matrix?

Thanks in advance,

A.

  • Hi A,

    1) Yes, there is no R/G/B difference from the device point of view. we have one TI reference design with TLC5958 that you have already found in last E2E question.

    2) Yes, for 8*32, 2* TLC6946 with 8 scan lines is enough. they are similar for you application, the big difference is the channel numbers, one is 16 and another is 48.

However, I will recommend to use TLC59283 if there is no refresh rate requirement.

    Regards,

    Shawn.
