TLV62568: Power consumption challenge on pre-production board

Part Number: TLV62568

Hello,

We have developed a Power supply using the TLV62568 and are facing some challenges. The board is being using a run a device whose Power Consumption is mentioned here. The two circled functions are the only two functions we use:

The schematic that we have developed using the TLV62568 is here:

The challenge we are facing is when we use the board to power it up from a laptop some laptops are working fine:

HP 15 Notebook

Apple's Macbook Pro 13" and 15" (2018 version)

The board is kept continuously ON for over 8 hours and no component heat up or there are no other challenges.

However, when we use the following laptops:

Lenovo T480 or the Lenovo T490 and the Dell Inspiron the components connected between the USB power and the Wi-Fi module start to heat up. The components connected between the Wi-Fi module and the USB power are 74HC4052 and CP2102N.

There is also another power supply we have tried to use and that Power supply is based on the AM1117.

Non of the laptops pose a challenge when this is the Power supply being used and the board functions just fine.

Can you advice on what might be the challenge?

Thanks

Ambimat

  • Hi Ambimat,

Thanks for reaching out. From the information you provided I do not see any foreseeable problems. I will ask you to confirm some things, and provide some more data:

    • Please confirm if the load (Wifi) is always the same when you connect with any of the laptops.
    • Can you also provide the layout details of your design.
    • Additionally, it can be helpful to measure the following to understand the problem.

    HP 15 / Apple Lenovo
    V_in x x
    I_in x x
    I_out x x

I look forward to your reply.

    Thanks,

    Zain

Are you talking about the Power supply to the laptops or you are referring to the Power Supply from the USB ports? I think I was not clear enough when I said powered from the laptop. I meant to mention that the device was powered from the USB port of the laptops mentioned.

  • Dear Ambimat,

Kindly provide your email address and I will reachout to you.

    Thanks,

I am referring to the Power Supply from the USB port, or let me rephrase it: The Voltage being input into TLV62568, as well as the voltage and current output from the device. Since you observe heating in the case of connection with Lenovo laptops, it is important to compare these voltage input and output between Lenovo and HP/Apple for example. I hope this clarifies, and I look forward to see the comparison table :)

    Best Regards,

  • The discussion will be taken offline from here, so I am closing the thread.
