TPS65185: i2c address on TPS65185

Part Number: TPS65185
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65186

During reading the TPS65185 / TPS651851 system documentation (link) http://www.ti.com/document-viewer/TPS65185/datasheet/abstract#SLVSAQ85042
in chapter 7.5 Electrical Characteristic we found information that the power supply works under i2c address 0x68h
and there is possibility of "(3) Contact TI for alternate address of 0 × 48h." with a request for a system working in the address 0x48h.

Does similar principle apply to TPS65186 systems? Can we order such a system working on i2c address 0x68h?

What are the differences between systems and TPS65185 / TPS651851 and TPS65186?

In our diagram we use the TPS65186 system but unfortunately we have on this I2C bus
address already taken 0x48h. Therefore, we are looking for an alternative system with a compatible pinout with the TPS65186 system, which we could replace on our aplication.

  • Hi,

    The TPS65186 I2C address is 0x48h by default. You can request TI to change the I2C address to 0x68h if 0x48h is used by another component in your application.

    The table below shows the main differences between the three variants. Most are related to the current capabilities of a few of the regulators. Please also note that the TPS65185 and TPS65186 are not pin-to-pin compatible.

    Parameter Special Conditions TPS65185 TPS651851 TPS65186
    DCDC1 Switch Current Limit 1.5 A 2.5 A 1.5 A*
    POS LDO Current Limit 3 V <= VIN <= 3.6 V 120 mA 150 mA 120 mA
    VIN >= 3.6 V 120 mA 200 mA 120 mA
    NEG LDO Current Limit 3 V <= VIN <= 3.6 V 180 mA 158 mA 120 mA
    VIN >= 3.6 V 200 mA 200 mA 120 mA
    VDDH Load Current 10 mA 15 mA 10 mA
    VEE Load Current 12 mA 15 mA 12 mA
    Integrated Discharge Resistors Yes Yes No

    *TI provides 1 A, 2 A, and 2.5 A options for the TPS65186 DCDC1 switch current limit.

    Thanks,

    Gerard
