BQ24195: What is the maximum output current? (sys out & charging out)

Hi TI team,

My customer is designing new project. They want 4A each for system and charging.

I think the maximum output current of BQ24195 is 4.5A. (System current + battery current)

Please let me know the exact maximum output current of the BQ24195 for the system and charge current.

Hi Downey,

You are correct. The maximum system plus battery current is 4.5A. For higher current, I recommend either paralleling two chargers as explained in the article below or move to a higher current, external FET charger like BQ25713.

Hi Jeff,

1. If the 2A charge current is set and the system current consumes 3.5A, does the charge current decrease to 1A?

2. If the system current consumes more than 4.5A, does the battery discharge the insufficient current? or does the Charger IC perform an overcurrent protection?

Regarding 1, yes.

Regarding 2, the battery supplements up to IBATFET_OCP=9V minimum.

Regarding2, If the Charger Vbus is supplied power and the internal buck operates, and the system consumption current exceeds 4.5A. Since there is not enough current to charge the battery, is the battery current flowing to the system(discharging)?
