LM317L-N: Behavior at short circuit condition

Part Number: LM317L-N

Hello Team.

I would like to confirm the behavior at short circuit condition.

Could you let me know how the over Temp & over current protection work ?
(1) Specifically, the detailed behavior at Over temp, the release threshold, and the temperature monitoring point.

(2) Specifically, the detailed behavior at Over current, the release threshold, and the current monitoring point.

When the load was short-circuited, Over Temp and Over Current Protection seemed to be applied.
My customer hopes to  confirm the validity of the operation with above points.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Jin

  • Hi Jin,

    (1) Specifically, the detailed behavior at Over temp, the release threshold, and the temperature monitoring point.

There is thermal protection that will shut down the device when the junction temperature exceeds 170C.

    (2) Specifically, the detailed behavior at Over current, the release threshold, and the current monitoring point.

The datasheet uses the current limit to describe the overcurrent protection. The current limit will engage in the current range described below.
