LM9061-Q1: using LM9061 for hotswap

Part Number: LM9061-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM9061, LM5069, LM5066, LM5050-1-Q1, LM5060-Q1

Dear Sir,

I am using LM9061 for hotswap of two supplies from mains and Battery,to swap the Voltage of 24 Volt.
I am using two LM9061 to drive two mosfets.I am using Source pin of N Channel Mosfet as Battery Input and Drain Pin as Hotswap Output.
Enable signal we are getting from Micro controller.Drain Pin of mosfet is connected to VCC pin of LM9061.
Thresold pin of LM9061 is connected to Source and Sense Pin of LM9061 is Connected to Drain of the mosfet.
This IC can be used for this type of application. Please verify and Confirm.

  • Hi Murthy,

The body diode of the external fet will provide path to the output right?

Can you share your application use case and end system details to suggest suitable solution

What are voltage and current levels?

    Regards, Rakesh

  • Yes Sir, Body diode of the external fet will provide path to the output to ensure current will not interrupt the load till mosfet changes the source of input.

We have two requirements if we consider the operating Voltage
    1st requirement
    Operating Voltage: 50 V DC
    Operating Continuous Current: 80A
    2nd Requirement
    Operating Voltage: 34 V DC
    Operating Continuous Current: 80A
it is going to power the Brushless DC (BLDC) motor's
if required We are ready to provide separate voltage source to power LM9061.
    Regards
    Murthy
  • Hi Murthy,

    Thanks for the details.

For ORing two supplies use ORing controllers LM5050 or LM74700

For high current hot-swap protection, use LM5069 or LM5066

    Regards, Rakesh

  • Hi Murthy,

Let me know if you have any further questions on the above suggestions.

    Regards, Rakesh

  • Dear Sir

Oring and Hot swap will provide uninterruptible power supply to load.

But in Diode Oring it will select the Highest Voltage.
In Hot swap we can decide the priority of Sources.

In Hot swap High side N Channel Mosfet Drain is connected to Input and Source is connected to output.

In Diode Oring High N Channel Mosfet Source is connected to output and Drain is connected to Input.

    Is this right?.

Sir i want to try both configurations on prototype.

1.LM5050-1-Q1 (I would like to use for Diode oring).

2.LM5069  (I need some application circuit by disable current sense, Under Voltage and Over voltage protections.I don't need these protections in my application).

I need enable and disable function so that i can control the IC from Digital Logic.

LM5066 looks complicated in operation in my application.

    Regards

    Murthy

    Rakesh-> Correct.

1.LM5050-1-Q1 (I would like to use for Diode oring).

    Rakesh-> OK

2.LM5069  (I need some application circuit by disable current sense, Under Voltage and Over voltage protections.I don't need these protections in my application).

I need enable and disable function so that i can control the IC from Digital Logic. LM5066 looks complicated in operation in my application.

Rakesh-> Understood. Then use simple controller LM5060-Q1

    Best Regards, Rakesh
