TPS61088: About ensure the maximum output power

Hi,

Customer want to increase the output power as much as possible.
However, a large PCB layout cannot be secured due to the area of the application.
Do you have a design example using a heat sink or a heat dissipation sheet?

    To our knowledge, very few customer use heatsink.

    What is your output power? Vin, Vo, and Io? Then we can give some suggestion based on your usage.

    Condition is :
    Vin=3.0V to 4.2V
    Vout=5V
    Iout=4.5A / 20sec~30sec ※peak current 

    1. Customers are considering heat sinks to further increase output power.
     Do you have a design example using a heat sink or a heat dissipation sheet?

    2. During peak current output, device junction temperature is below 125 °C to 149 °C.
        Application is such a temperature condition only during the peak current.
     Will the life of the device be shortened if this operation is repeated?

  • Hi Yusuke-San,

    Iout=4.5A / 20sec~30sec ※peak current is just the maximum output capability of TPS61088.

    If you use a 4-layer board or 6-layer board, pour a big GND copper plane for the IC, like what the TPS61088EVM do, then it should be OK.

    If the layout is good. The maximum Tc will not exceed 90C.

    It might be just as you say.
    However, customer application is small.

    Therefore, Tj is about 150℃@30sec.
    And Repeat the above operation.
    Does TPS61088 deteriorate if the temperature is below 150℃?
