LMG3410R050: High voltage buck conveter

Part Number: LMG3410R050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG3410-HB-EVM, LMG34XX-BB-EVM

Hi,

I am trying to make a high voltage buck converter ( 400Vin to 300Vout, 4A)  using the following circuits.

- LMG3410-050 daughter card (LMG3410-HB-EVM)
- LMG34XX-BB-EVM (LMG34xx GaN system-level evaluation motherboard)

Could  you recommend a suitable controller?

Q1:  Is there a stand alone controller without  micro controller ?

Q2:  How can I increase the maximum PWM carrier frequency if I use a microprocessor? I want to make the inductor smaller.

  • Hello Kiyoung,

Yes you can use an analog controller for controlling the daughter card/motherboard we have. You need to have the voltage/current sense at the output and use a controller to generate PWM for high/low side IN pin.

    Q1:

You can use LM5140. Details about the device is here. This one gives you ability to go 440kHz switching frequency (2.2MHz not supported by our LMG part).

    Q2:

For digital controller, you can use either C2000 or MSP430. You can control the carrier frequency with the digital controller. Please keep the switching frequency under 1MHz so our LMG part will function correctly (the internal driver circuit).

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
