UCC21530: Power consuption

Part Number: UCC21530

Hi, I am designing power supply for secondary side of UCC21530 isolated gate driver. I am confused for some graphs in datasheet. There are graphs for current vs.freqency and temperatures for "per channel current consuptions". I would like to get some relevant information about secondary side UCC21530 power consuption (the IC itself). I don´t care about power to the gate of transistor. If I undestood it correctly, Figure 8. on 11th page of datasheet gives me what I want ? Am I right ? Thank you for your answer :-)

  • Hi,

Thank you for your question. I work on the applications team in the high power drivers group.

You are correct. The curve in figure 8 gives the individual gate driver current consumption vs. temperature, and can be used to infer ICCq when the driver is idle. It has a slightly positive trend, but does not vary too much, requiring roughly 1.5mA at high temperature. The graph for figure 4 should also be considered, since IDDx will go up with switching frequency, even if there is no load attached.

If this answered your question, could you please press the green button? If not, feel free to ask more questions.

    Thanks and best regards,

    John
