TPS23756: Asking for the better POE PD recommendation on PCB area

Part Number: TPS23756

Hi Team,

Customer is evaluating TPS23756 and customer has PCB size concern.

Would you please provide suggestions for this request?

  • Hello,

The PCB is an EVM, which has numerous test points and jumpers that can be removed. This also frees up space for other components to be moved in. Additionally, the customer could choose to use a PCB with more layers so that more components could be placed closer together. They could also simply try the same design but improving the layout. The power flow of the EVM is a clear, left to right flow. They could try a "C" shape or an "L" shape instead.

All of those suggestions are using the same, proven design with all the same components. Another path is to use a smaller transformer. I do not recommend this, as smaller transformers typically translates to worse performance. Since the transformer is so essential to the design, careful attention to surrounding components must be used to ensure proper operation. But this is a path to a smaller design.
