TPS62172: TPS62172 with LiPo 3.7V and general guidance

Part Number: TPS62172

Dear e2e-Team,

I am planning to use the tps62172 with 3.3V output voltage regulation along with a single cell 3.7V lithium battery. According to the datasheet, the minimum input voltage calculates to:

Vin=Vout+Iout*(Rds+Rl)

For my setup, that is Vout=3.3V, Rds=0.5Ohm, Rl=0.5Ohm, Iout=150mA peak, which yields to Vin=3.45V. That makes me feel quite comfortable.

However, I've just seen also that the inductor at least needs a current rating of at least the output current and the current ripples, which is why I will probably take something above 500mA.

So when studying the ti datasheets, it is actually all there what you need :D.....Thank you!

I still have a couple of questions for general guidance:

1. Are there better suited ti components for stepping down LiPo voltage to 3.3V?

2. Are there LiPo multi LiPo cell chargers?

3. Are there LiPo multi cell fuel gauges?

Thank you!

  • Markovicz,

    The cut off voltage for Lipo battery is typically around 3.2 V.  If you are planning to use the full capacity, you may want to consider a buck-boost solution.

    You should make a separate post for chargers and fuel cells.  They are discussed in a different sub forum.
