UCC28C44: optimize size by removing NA winding?

Part Number: UCC28C44

Team,

For the below flyback spec:
         185/265VAC / 50hz -> 10VDC @ 3.2A

The two main requirements are: low cost and small size

1) In order to reduce size:
Looking at datasheet page 14: Is there a way with UCC28C44 to use a transformer with only NP and NS (and no NA winding)?
Or is NA mandatory to start up and power the UCC28C44?

2) If 1) can not be done what do you advise to optimize the size of the solution?
Do you have tips to reduce the size of the transformer for this use case?

Thanks in advance!

A.

  • Hi AnBer,

    The auxiliary winding NA is used to supply bias voltage to the UCC28C44 after start-up.

    The auxiliary winding is not the reason of larger size, canceling auxiliary winding is not a way to reduce the size, the most effective way to reduce size is increasing operating frequency.

    Regards,

    Teng
