Our customer has been evaluating the LM5170 using the associated EVM. They are finding their efficiency measurements are consistently 1% lower than what is in the TI documentation, and want to to better understand how TI did these measurements.

Can you please let us know what current sensor and power analyzer system was used to measure the efficiency of the LM5170 EVM?

Hi Steve,

The EVM efficiency is measured by reading the input and output voltages at the PCB copper polygon meets the connectors, but not at the connector's wiring ends, because the connector has additional losses not included in the EVM losses.

We used calibrated shunt to read the current, and digital multi meters (HP or Agilent) to read the voltages. I cannot remember clearly the model numbers. Sorry currently we are working from home, not able to check these out at the lab.
