About BQ24092 Open/Short test,

In some condition, battery charging is not stop and still work charing function.

 (e.g. over charge current, not work thermal protect and so on)

 

Battery charging is not stopped in below 9 conditions:

Pin4 (pre-term): Open

Pin9 (TS): Open   *TTDM mode

R604 (pre-term R) : remove

Pin2(ISET) and Ping3(GND) : short   * charging without current limit.

Pin3(GND) and Pin4(pre-term) : short

Pin4(pre-term) and Pin5(PG) : short

Pin6(NC) and pin7(ISET2) : short

Pin7(ISET2) and Pin8(CHG) : short

Pin9(TS) and Pin10(OUT) : short *TTDM mode

 

Is it possible to disable charging when BQ24092 pin open/short?

    Here are the results of our own FMEA of BQ24092.

    Pin2(ISET) and Ping3(GND) : Shorting should result in no charge (devices latches off due to ISET OCP protection). Input toggle required to restart operation.

    Pin3(GND) and Pin4(pre-term) : shorting - Normal charging operation with IPRECHG and ITERM = 0 mA

    Pin4(pre-term) and Pin5(PG) : short - Normal charging operation with IPRECHG and ITERM = 0 mA

    Pin6(NC) and pin7(ISET2) : short - Normal charging operation

    Pin7(ISET2) and Pin8(CHG) : short  - Normal charging operation with max ICHG = ISET

    In TTDM mode, BQ24092 can't read the battery temperature.

    In some condition (eg. High temp.),Is it unsafe or not occur damage to battery pack?

    Is it possible to disable charging when Pin9 Open/short ?
    or other IC can do this

    In some condition (eg. High temp.),Is it unsafe or not occur damage to battery pack? BQ24092 has internal thermal regulation to prevent damage to device, this is much higher than 60C limit of battery pack though.

     

    Is it possible to disable charging when Pin9 Open/short ?or other IC can do this? BQ24010 / BQ24014 may be better suited for this but only has two temp thresholds.  Shorting to HIGH or GND and floating TS disables charging.

    BQ21061 (I2C charger) provide a "TS open" fault that disables charging. Shorting high/GND would also disable charging.

    Pin3-4 shorting and Pin4-5 shorting
      Does battery accept 0mA precharge and 0mA ITERM?

    We did not receive other open/short condition.
    (pin4 open, pin9 open, pin9-10 short)

    What will happen to IC in these condition?
    And does battery accept these charging condition?

    Pin3-4 shorting and Pin4-5 shorting
      Does battery accept 0mA precharge and 0mA ITERM? Precharge current set to 0mA. Will never reach fast charge for low Vbat. Fast charge operates normally. Termination set to 0mA, if there is a system load charge will not terminate.

     

    Pin4 open: Default setting of pre-term,  IPreChg = 20% and ITERM = 10% of fast charge


    Pin 9 open: TTDM mode

    Pin  9-10 short:  TTDM mode
