CSD19538Q2: Power dissipation part recommendation

Part Number: CSD19538Q2

Hi team,

I have a customer looking for a FET that will be used in a heating coil application.

the max current draw through the FET is 3A and must be able to handle 15W.

I am trying to understand which of our FETs can handle this. under the datasheet for CSD19538Q2, i see 2.5W max dissipation and 20.2W for Tc = 25C. the 20.2W calculation seems really optimistic with a constant case temp of 25C when in reality it should rise with increasing current.

Assuming no heatsink, should i be using R_theta_JC or R_theta_JA in the calculation for whether the FET can handle 15W?

what is the recommended solution for 15W at the smallest solution size possible?

Thanks,

Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Thanks for promoting TI FETs at your customers. Please tell me more about the application in an email to my TI.com email address. This will be easier to handle in regular email rather than going back and forth on this public forum. You can find technical information about TI FETs at the Support & training tab on the MOSFET landing page in the link after my signature.
