BQ28Z610: Unseal code

Hi Expert,

Is the default security mode sealed? Customer want to send twice consecutive shutdown command into shutdown mode without any delay time but found out the chip is sealed. Would you please let us know what's the unseal command and a write format example how to do it?

Hi Allan,

No. The SEC1, SEC0 should 0, 1 (Full Access) by default.

Unsealing is a two-step command performed by writing the first word of the unseal key to AltManufacturerAccess() (MAC), followed by the second word of the unseal key to AltManufacturerAccess().

Hi Andy,

Would it be possible for Guage IC bq28z610 to default to seal mode if I didn't deliberately put it in seal mode?

Because I read the 0x00/0x01 register Bit14:Bit13 is 1:1.

So this Guage IC default is Full Access mode that I can write 0x0010 register twice in a row to enter shipping mode?

I assume the shipping mode actually means the SHUTDOWN mode.

If the gauge is sealed, you would need to send the command (0x0010) twice in a row. However, if the gauge is in FULL ACCESS mode, you just need to send the command once. I would suggest you double check with an EVM.

Hi Andy,

Yes, It is shutdown mode.

I tried to send the command once, but it enter shutdown mode fail...

I want to quickly go into shutdown mode, because now we have to wait more than 10s after sending command twice in a row before the camera shutdown.

So how to change sealed mode to unsealed or full access mode? I don't know why our guage IC is sealed in default.

Hi Kirk,

The gauge device should not in SEALED mode by default.

I would suggest you program the bq28z610 device with the default srec file, do a power cycle and check if the gauge is in SEALED after the first power-on.

-> You mean I can try it with a new Guage IC and do a full charge and discharge and see if it's sealed mode?

Hi Kirk,

You could use bq28z610 Gauging Firmware (Rev. A) in BQ28Z610 product folder > Software development to check default values.

Make sure you download the correct firmware. Bascially, if you are using a bq28z610-R1 device, you need to download the -R1 firmware.

Hi Kirk,

It should be within few days. I found the unseal and full access keys from other thread. Please have a try.

The default unseal keys are 0414 3672 and the full access keys are FFFF FFFF.

Hi Allan,

I found in datasheet :"Once in SEALED mode, the part can never permanently return to UNSEALED or FULL ACCESS modes.".

Does that mean I can't recover to unsealed mode?

Hi Kirk,

The gauge will not be able to permanently return to UNSEALED or FULL ACCESS modes. If you send a reset command or do a power-cycle, the gauge will go back to SEALED mode.
