BQ24780S: without uC charging termination?

Part Number: BQ24780S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25886, , BQ34Z653

Hi,

I this thread  -> e2e.ti.com/.../3271561

1> It it said  ->  "Some of our devices feature self termination, but not the BQ24780s."

Can you tell us the device which has "self termination" and support 4-cells of Li-Ion.

2> it is specified - > "terminate the BQ24780s charging directly without uC intervention"

How to do it? which pin to use?

Regards,

Mangesh

  • Hi Mangesh,

1>  We have devices such as the BQ25886 that terminate charge for 2S LiIon battery applications, but we do not currently have a product with integrated charging termination for 4-cell LiIon batteries.

2>  The "terminate the BQ24780S charging directly without uC intervention" from the thread you reference is discussing the smart battery specification ( http://sbs-forum.org ) which would allow a gauge product to terminate the charging via I2C / SMBus.  You can look at the BQ34Z653 gauge as an example of an SBS compliant gauge.  Reference section 8.3.3 "Reports the appropriate charging current needed for constant current charging and the appropriate charging voltage needed for constant voltage charging to a smart charger using SMBus broadcasts."  For more information on the SBS capabilities of gauge products, please contact the gauge team (i.e. post an E2E forum question for this or another gauge part number.)

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks, I got how to use uC/SMBus/SBS to terminate charging.

But, I want to know how to terminate without uC/SMBus/SBS.. (without SW)

I am ok with any charging and gauge device.

  • Hi,

    Any update?

    Regards,

    Mangesh

  • Hi Mangesh,

We have a device that will be announced at the end of the month that supports 4-cells and has self-termination.  I am afraid that I can't tell you any more about it until it is announced.  Other than this device, we do not have any devices that support 4-cells and have self-termination.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Steve,

    Thanks for update,

    I can see  bq2461x support 4-cells and have self-termination.

But I can not use it.. as it do not have host interface.

So I hope new devices has host interface.

    Regards,

    Mangesh
