Hi team,

My customer is considering using TPS2660 to limit inrush current. there have some questions:

1. DS says a minimum 0.1uF needs to be connected to IN pin. Is this input cap mandatory? Since it has some influence on surge current test, customer wants to confirm that whether can remove it.

2. Customer doesn't need OVP and UVP function, how to deal with OVP pin and UVLO pin? Can we leave these 2 pins floating?

3. The \SHDN pin has an internal pull-up resistor and Avdd supply. What are the value of this resistor and Avdd supply? since customer want's the device in shutdown mode during power-up and then enabled by MCU (MCU is supplied by another rail), an external pull-down resistor needs to be added in \SHDN pin.

Hi Yang,

1A) min 0.1uF is needed at the input to help the device during fast slew-rate transients at the input

2A) If the Under-Voltage Lock-Out function is not needed, the UVLO terminal must be connected to the IN terminal.

OVP cannot be disabled completely on TPS2660. However, you can set the OVP higher than 55V (for example, 60V) using external resistors.
For 60V, OVP setting,
Connect 490kohm resistor from IN pin to OVP.
Connect 10kohm resistor from OVP to RTN.

3A) 1MOhm and 2.7V

Hi Rakesh,

For the 3rd question of internal pull-up resistor on \SHDN pin, what's the min Resitsance of the resistor (I suppose your answer 1Mohm is typical value)?

In addition, for current limit resistor, datasheet says, RILIM ≥ 5.36 kΩ (2.35-A maximum). Can customer use 5.1kΩ instead?

Hi Yang,

I will check with the team and let you know the tolerance of the 1Mohm resistance.

We have not evaluated the device behavior for Rilim value <5.36kOhm and cannot guarantee the device functionality. For higher current application, please propose TPS2663 solution.

Hi Yang,

Here are the details of SHDN pin components.

Avdd voltage -> 3.6V to 4.3V

Open voltage of SHDN pin -> 2V to 3.4V

Internal pull-up resistor = 1M with +/-20% tolerance.
