TPS63050: Input voltage over recommended value

Part Number: TPS63050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63060, TPS63070

Hi,

Planning on using the TPS63050/1. Some batteries types will have MAX 5,8V, is this harmful for the IC when the spec is 5,5V max but absolute max is 7V?

Thanks

  • Hi Aivaras:

Your concern is correct. We recommend the device working below 5.5V. The verification and validation are all with this spec.

For the case that Vin larger than 5.5 but still smaller than 7V, and other parameters are within the absolution maximum rating, the device won't be damaged. But we can't guarantee it's performance and  it's not recommended.

How about adding a diode to bring additional voltage drop, or chose higher voltage rate devices like TPS63060, TPS63070?
