BQ24195: Issue with resuming charging if power cycle on the VBUS

Part Number: BQ24195

Hi Team,

My customer is experiencing an issue using the BQ24195 and I'd like to get your suggestions.

Background:
Settings:

  • Charging enabled
  • Input source voltage limit: 4120mV
  • Input source current limit: 900mA
  • Charge current limit: 1024mA
  • Charge voltage limit: 4112mV
  • Recharge threshold: 100mV

Given the settings above, a battery is attached, the device cannot resume charging if we powered cycle on VBUS, while the MCU is shutdown by disabling a DC-DC between the SYS of PMIC and the MCU sub-system.

Digging deeper, we found that the buck converter is disabled (EN_HIZ is set) if we detach the power supply on VBUS, and it won't be enabled automatically if we attach the power supply on VBUS again. Note that the MCU is in shutdown and cannot process any interrupt from PMIC.

Walking through the datasheet, we didn't find anything useful on how this issue is encountered. The tricky thing is that if the battery voltage is below ~3.55v, it can resume charging, otherwise, it can't. This is not detailed in the datasheet most likely.

Do you have any idea about this issue?

Thanks,
Mitchell
