UA78M: Operation when current exceeding output peak current flows

Part Number: UA78M

Dear all,

I would like to know about operation when current exceeding output peak current flows

According to the data sheet, peak output current is specified as typ. 700mA.

If inrush current flows to UA78M exceeding typ.700mA, does the device not stop, but the current (output current) flowing to the device is maintained (clamped) at the current value of peak output current?

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hello,

In the case of inrush current, the current limiting loop cannot respond to the change in current quickly enough, so you may see that the inrush current does exceed the peak current rating. Once the current limiting loop has a chance to sense the large current, it will reduce and limit the current to the peak current listed in the datasheet.
