BQ2947: Maximum output voltage

Part Number: BQ2947

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to know the maximum output voltage for BQ294702DSGR. Here's the complete question to assure if this device is suitable for their medical device battery application:

Datasheet for BQ294702DSGR lists minimum value for active high output drive voltage Vout during a cell overvoltage condition, when (V4–V3), (V3–V2), (V2–V1), or (V1–VSS) > VOV .
What is the maximum value for Vout?
Is Vout always guaranteed to be < x Volts in all operating conditions, what is x in the condition that maximum battery voltage is 16.5V?

Please let me know if you have any questions for the customer.

Thanks,

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

For the answer to that question, take a look at Figure 6 in the data sheet (page 7). I've also attached it here for reference. According to the graph, a VDD (battery stack voltage) of 16.5V would result in a Vout of around ~7.3V. It looks like it never reaches more than 8V.

  • Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your answer and support.
Upon sharing this answer to our customer as I also saw it first in the datasheet. Here's the response I got:
"We need a “Maximum Parameter Value” for Vout  as in 7.5 “Electrical Charactersitics” with TA = -40 to 110 C and VDD = 3V to 20 V."

Do you have information for this question of the customer?

    Regards,

    Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

I am not entirely sure why we did not specify a maximum value, but I cannot speculate because it takes a significant amount of testing and validation to determine an entry for the electrical characteristics table. The best we can do is the number in that chart, which seems to point to a max value of around 8V.
