LM1117: Doubt with recommended value ESR of the capacitor output.

Part Number: LM1117

Hi team TI

I bought some LM1117T-5.0 regulators this week directly from TI and i found out a old data sheet (August 2000) for LM1117 National Semiconductor that says the following:
"The ESR of the output capacitor should be less than 0.5Ω".

However, the TI´s data sheet says: "The ESR of the output capacitor should range between 0.3 Ω to 22 Ω ".
What value should I use ?

Regards,
Leonardo

  • Hi Leonardo,

    The latest datasheet is accurate.
The less than 0.5 ohms was a typo, and in rev E of the datasheet it was changed to be greater than 0.5 ohms and less than 5 ohms.  Rev E of the datasheet was released in April of 2001, so the error in the 2000 datasheet you have cited was caught and corrected relatively quickly.

Use the latest datasheet guidance for the correct ESR range for stability.

    Thanks,
