TLV711: Maximum output capacitance

Part Number: TLV711

What is the maximum capacitance that can be connected to the output for stability, or can it be increased without limit? I would connect around 100uF.

  • Hi Marcel,

I could not find any data on a maximum COUT, but in general, 100uF should be OK. Your biggest concerns are:

    1. Inrush - You may want to make sure VIN has the same amount of capacitance as on the outputs. This will help to minimize the input voltage dropping as VOUT comes up. The TLV711 does have a current limit, but that is a secondary loop and a bit slower than the voltage regulation.

    2. Reverse Current - In the event, VIN is suddenly powered down or shorted the energy stored at the output will flow into the input. A common way to mitigate this is to add a parallel Schottky diode to shunt the reverse current around the LDO.

I hope this helps to answer your question.
