TPS61022: TPS61022 internal MOSFET body diode polarity,maximum voltage and power dissipation

can you confirm whether MOSFET between Pin 2(SW) and Pin3(VOUT) is p-channel MOSFET?

we unable to see clear picture in block diagram of specification.

we need to load the IC, can you explore on connection of body diode in MOSFET.

what is the maximum power dissipation of MOSFET(between pin2 and pin3)

Hi Arunkumar,

The high-side FET in TPS61022 is a P-channel MOSFET. The body diode direction could be controlled by detecting Vin and Vout voltage. If Vin is higher than Vout, diode direction is from Vout to SW. If Vin is lower than Vout, diode direction is from SW to Vout.

TPS61022 implements 8A switch valley current limit.

Irrespective of Vin, can we load just body diode through SW(+ve) and VOUT(ground)

Can we load maximum 8A through this body diode?

What's the Vin range, Vout of your application?

Is the 8A load a continuous load or short time pulse? Can you describe the load current details?

Furthermore, 8A is only the typical spec. 6.5A is the minimum current limit spec in EC table.

we have checked the voltage without powering ON IC by putting multimeter in diode mode,

VOUT vs SW is 1.9V

REF vs VOUT is 0.4V

REF vs SW is 0.4V

Can we power ON diodes and observe temperature rise by loading 100mA,200mA... increasing gradually

Can you tell me the reason why you care about the diode direction? I don't understand why you measure the voltage drop between these pins. Thanks.

Hi Zack Liu,

Our intention is to load IC by single wire(supply and ground) and observe temperature rise for certification.

if we want to use as boost/buck,we need inductor,feedback resistors etc many components so we want to just make use of body diode of internal FET and check temperature rise.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for the further information.

There is a ESD diode between GND and MODE pin that you can use this diode to observe temperature rise. Use a source meter to sink a 1mA current into this diode and measure the voltage VS temperature.

Hi zack liu,

we need to load actual IC with maximum load current of around 2A.

If we consider MOSFET between input/SW and output then current would be higher then it will serve our purpose.

Hi Arun,

When TPS61022 is not powered and enabled, the diode direction is not fixed.

If you don't use TPS61022 as a boost converter, why don't you select a discrete diode? Sorry I really don't understand your applications.
