TPS54618-Q1: Is it ok to use BOOT resistor for this part

Part Number: TPS54618-Q1

Hi team,

Would you please check if TPS54618-Q1 is ok to use boot resistor? or can only use snubber?

Here is a post regarding TPS57114-Q1, we don't recommend to use boot resistor for TPS57114.

So I would like to double check for TPS54618-Q1.

Thank you.

Regards,

Allen

  • Hi Allen,

you find the recommended circuits and components in the datasheet. As you can see it there, no boot resistors are used. Charging circuit for the boot strap capacitor and gate driver, both internal, are designed for this configuration. There is also a clear recommendation of the capacitor type to be used as a bootstrap capacitor. I strongly suggest to follow this recommendation.

  • Hi Juergen,

So we don't suggest to place boot resistor.

Do we recommend snubber RC for this device if customer has EMI concern?

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Allen

  • Hi Allen,

for getting good EMI performance a good layout and selection of appropriate input capacitors is most important. If this is not done properly for any reason a snubber circuit may help. But this is not the default recommendation.
