TLV704: Any ESR standard for input/output capacitor?

Part Number: TLV704

Hi Team

My customer asked that, is there any ESR standard for input/output capacitor?

The customer is using TLV70450DBVR (Recommended input/output capacitor capacity: 1uF or more)

Generally, I think that there is an ESR standard for LDO, but is there an ESR standard for this device?

I'm asking because I can't find the information in the datasheet.

It is said that ceramic capacitors are recommended, but how about the ESR standard?

Best Regards,

  • HI Hung Ching,

Typically that input capacitor is not required for stability. As for the output capacitor we typically simulate with a minimum ESR of around 20mOhms. the reason we emphasize ceramic capacitors are simply that they are typically smaller and cheaper than other dielectrics. I updated this app note to help clarify ESR and its impact on stability.

Does this help to answer your question?
