BQ27510-G3: BQ27510-G3 wrong time to empty

HI,

I use the component BQ27510-G3 for the measurement of the discharge time of a battery.

The time to empty for 2 hours is correct but when the time to empty reaches 0mn (after 1h30) there is still 30mn before the battery is discharged.

I don't know where to look to correct the problem.

Did you use the GPCCHEM tool to find the chemistry id for your battery? If so, share the GPC report with us. Have you done the learning cycle successfully?

Also, provide a bqStudio log file so that we can have a batter understanding of your issue.

Hi Andy,

I completed the chemistry, I know it. I did the learning cycle.

I'm going to do the logs.

I was wondering if a pulsed discharge current (200ms every 4s for example) could bias the current measurement of the gauge ?

I would suggest you check the average current reported in the bqStudio log file. According to the TRM, the AverageCurrent( ) returns the average current flow through the sense resistor. Large current spikes of short duration are averaged out in this measurement.

I will also review the log files once you provide them.

Hi,

Here the log file.

The time to empty is 0mn but enough energy remains in the battery to keep the device running for 25 minutes.

SMTHEN is enabled.

I find that there are many differences between UnfilteredRM and FilteredRM .dÃ©chargejauge20072020.log

In your log file, I see the RemCap drops to 0 when the voltage is 3294mV.

Can you provide the srec file before your testing? I would like to review your configurations.

Hello Nicolas,

Can you share your .gg file? It is easier to read than the .srec for quickly looking at settings.

It looks like your gauge may have shutdown from looking at the log, your sysdown flag is set in the flags register, check your settings to see if the gauge is shutting down from the sysdown parameters that are set.

Here is the .gg file.

To shut down the system we don't use the sysdown flag.

The value of the Terminate Voltage parameter may be incorrect (too high).

Hello,

Yes that value is very high for a termination voltage setting, the gauge bases it's calculations off of that voltage, if you reduce the voltage and run the test you should see an increase in the time because the gauge accounts for the extra capacity.
