BQ76930: Why only 220ohm resistor in gate of Mosfet.

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00449

In Design Guide:TIDA-00449

10s battery pack monitoring, balancing, and comprehensive protection, 50-A discharge reference design.

Why particularly 220ohm resistor is used in GATE terminal of all 4 power MOSFET.

Any calculation?

What is the purpose of that 220ohm resistor other than gate current limiting.

  • HI Gururaj,

The reason for these components is in section 4.1.3.2 of the design guide. It says: "Some ringing on the gate of MOSFET could be caused by the drain and gate stray inductance and the Miller capacitance, even more when FETs are paralleled. To prevent this, chip ferrite beads (L1, L2, L3, and L4) are added in series with the gate of the protection FETs."
