LM5176: Can BIAS Pin be connected to output voltage of 4V?

Part Number: LM5176

Hello I would like to know if I can connect the LM5176 Bias pin directly to the output of the chip.

The output voltage is 4V.

Thank you,

Alex

  • Hello Alex,

If the BIAS pin is connected to an external voltage source that exceeds VCC by one diode drop, the VCC regulator draws power from the BIAS input instead of VIN.

So you can connect BIAS to a 4V output, but as this is below the VBIAS switchover voltage of 8.75V maximum, the device will still be supplied from VIN until VIN falls below this voltage.

And then the question is if your MOSFETs still get fully turned on with such a low voltage.
