TPS25982: Can the output be powered with no input power

Part Number: TPS25982

We would like to test the system by applying power directly to the power rail which is normally powered with the TPS25982.

In the schematic below the power would be applied at +VIN (output of TPS25982) instead of J3

1. Is it OK to have up to 16V at the output with no power applied at the input?

2. Do we need to disable the device to make sure it is switched off in this situation?

3.  What if we allow a small amount of reverse current (reverse diode and resistor)

  • Hi Shalom,

TPS25982 device doesn't have blocking FET integrated. So, when voltage is applied at the output the current would flow from the body diode to the input. There is no control in the amount of current flowing and is purely dependent on the load at the input. The current would flow even when the device is turned OFF.

Care must be taken to avoid contiguous flow of current so as to avoid damage to the body diode.
