BQ25150: Can I write temperature to the register instead of using TS? And can I tie ADCIN and IMAX together?

Part Number: BQ25150

Hi BCP team,

I have a question on behalf of my customer.

  1. Is it ok to tie ADCIN and IMAX?  The datasheet indicates that ADCIN should not be left un-tied, they are not using the ADCIN function and given that it’s one of the inner balls they just passed the IMAX signal thru to C4 (ADCIN).
  2. Their system measures temperature at the battery so they don't need the TS pin. Is it possible to just write (via I2C) the temperature value (read from the battery pack) into the bq25150 register instead of using it’s own measurement system? They're wanting to use the HOT/COLD JEITA battery charging safety features.

  • Also another follow up question.

In order to communicate via I2C in Active battery mode, you must hold /MR low while /LP is low. /LP has an internal pull down so it can also be left floating. You must hold /MR low to communicate in I2C. Once /MR goes high, the device goes back to low power mode and you will not be able to communicate via I2C.

Is that correct? I see that if you hold /MR for as long as thwreset then the chip will reset. Does that mean the active battery mode communication can only happen in a time period shorter than thwreset if they want to communicate in Active battery mode?

  • Hello Lauren,

    1) You can tie the pin to ground. Also, there is no issue with leaving the ADCIN pin floating.

    2) The TS function can be disabled in register 0x17 if they dont intend to use it.

    3) You can pull /LP high and the device will be in active mode.
