TLV760: Decaps

Part Number: TLV760

Hi,

I am using TLV76033DBZR for to convert 5V to 3.3V.

I am plan to use both input and output capacitors are 0.1UF(Y5V)Caps

In TLV76033DBZR datasheet it shows input need greater than 0.1uF.Also TI suggest for to " Use C0G, X7R, or X5R-type ceramic capacitors"

is 0.1UF Y5V capacitor  is ok ?

or kindly suggest the capacitance required at the input and output capacitors?

Warm regards,

Monisha OM

  • Hi Monisha,

In general, Y5V capacitors can be used if another COG, X7R or X5R capacitor is used in parallel.  COG, X7R or X5R have much better tolerance against temperature and voltage bias than Y5V, and because this capacitor will be used to maintain stability of the LDO, we recommend these higher quality ceramic capacitors over Y5V.  If you need to use additional decoupling capacitors in parallel with a COG, X7R or X5R capacitor, then Y5V will be fine as long as the minimum capacitance of 0.1uF is being met.

    Thanks,
