BQ24040: stop charging when temperature >45C

Hello expert,

bq24040 supports JEITA spec which means 45C~60C will lower charging voltage but not stop charging. But customer need bq24040 stop charging when temperature is higher than 45C. They have EC in their system and can provide ADC to detect 45C. May I know if EC can provide one more GPIO to pull TS to GND to stop charging when T>45C? Thanks a lot!

Hi Ann,

Has customer looked at bq24090? This is a 0 - 45C spin of the bq24040.

Disabling with TS the device can no longer monitor temperature.

Hello Nick,

Customer would like to lower charging current when Temp=0C~10C so bq24090 cannot be implement, right? EC will change status when Temp go back to 10C~45C so we would not disable TS pin all the time. Thanks a lot!

EC will change status when Temp go back to 10C~45C so we would not disable TS pin all the time. Issue is if TS pin (with NTC) is grounded customer has no way of knowing when temp goes back to 10-45C range.

We have had other customers do similar, having NTC pulled up to IO voltage and monitor with ADC. Then connect another IO pin to TS pin for enable / disable. Would need to use two IO then as there are 3 states: half charge, normal charge, disable.
