TPS61022: Questions about pass-through modes and diodes

Part Number: TPS61022

Hi,

I would like to ask you about the TPS61022 device.
(question 1)
Is it okay to understand that the following OVP does not work in Pass-Through Operation?
(Question 2)
In the figure below, adding D1 is recommended for 4.8V input.
Why do you need a D1?
Also, what problems do you have without the D1?

Best regards,

  • Hi Kaji,

    1. TPS61022 input voltage range is 0.5V to 5.5V and maximum output voltage is 5.5V. If you configure the device working at pass-through mode (for example, Vout is set at 5.0V), when Vin is higher than 5.0V, the device enters into pass through mode and Vout will follow Vin. As Vin never exceeds 5.5V, Vout is always less than 5.5V. OVP won't happen.

    2. Because the high-side PFET maximum voltage rating (from SW to Vout) is 4.8V. For applications with input voltage range higher than 4.8V, this diode helps avoid PFET over voltage.
