TPS63036: Device Over-temperature protection trigger criteria & conditions

Hi,

I've recently encountered a case of device triggered to shutdown on my circuitry & I've narrow down the potential root cause to TPS63036. Reason being that test of PCB was done under 55C temperature soak test with expected output of 3.3V/1A & upon prolonged usage (3~5mins) my system was shutdown & only managed to recover after a few minutes. I do noticed that overtemp protection kicked in but I would need more information with regards to the overtemp protection behavior & triggering criteria to better fine tune my design. I was referring to datasheet section 6.5 EE Characteristics but information was hardly helpful on my analysis. Appreciate advise that can be provided in such case. Thanks.

Hi Leo:

The typical OTP is 140deg, with 20 hysteresis.

What's the Vin value? And do you use EVM or ?

If not EVM, please share the schematic and layout with us.

Hi Minqiu,

I've verified customer schematic vs recommended design on datasheet & it looks the same with input voltage set at 2.75Vin. Since the part has been incorporated onto end equipment PCB hence majority of tests & result duplication were done on the prototype board. Aside from the OTP & Hysteresis 20C are there any other resources which we can refer to on the OTP behavior?

Hi Minqiu,

Additionally I'm also curious on what conditions & cases which may trigger TPS63036 to shutdown. I'm reading into OVP but i'll need more information on how it works. The datsheet section 7.3.2 did helped on explanation but did not mentioned about possibility of device recovering back to original working state. How does this works?

May you share the waveform of Vin, Vout, L1, L2? If the Vin drops too much, the converter will also shutdown. As "When in operation, the device automatically enters the shutdown mode if the voltage at VIN drops below the undervoltage lockout threshold. "
