ULN2803A: Is there any absolute maximum rating for negative voltage of collector terminals?

Hello guys.

One of my customers is evaluating ULN2803A for their new products.

They have a few questions as the follows. Could you please give me your reply?

Q1. The ULN2803A drives a magnetic buzzer with self oscillation circuit.

They found ULN2803A collector terminal went down to -1.5V with 0.3us duration and 330us period when the magnetic buzzer was beeped.

Is the condition allowable?

Q2. Is there any absolute maximum rating for negative voltage of collector terminals?

Hi Kazuya,

While the datasheet does not state an absolute minimum CE voltage, I do not recommend any negative voltage lower than -0.3V being imparted on to the collector.

If possible, please use a schottkey diode from the collector to GND as a protective measure in the case of negative voltage spikes.
