UCC23513: H-Bridge Gate Driver.

Part Number: UCC23513
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27524A

I am not trained in electronics and require assistance in acquiring the correct high-side gate driver for an H-Bridge module which I'm using to switch polarities in electromagnets (by reversing currents of the order of 50A in the DC circuit from a 12V battery).

The module is a Vincotech FZ074PA75SM-L625F08 using IGBTs rated for 75A; Collector-Emitter Saturation Voltage 15V, Gate-Emitter Threshold Voltage 4V.

Someone at the AAC forum suggested using your UCC 23513 isolated gate driver, and I'm wondering if that is appropriate for this application; or whether another component or type of component would be better, such as a half-bridge driver.  The further problem in this situation is the need for a bootstrapping circuit.

  • Hi, James,

Indeed you are correct... We just happen to have an EVM that solves this problem!

You would need two of these, one for each high-side switch, and two low-side drivers as well to complete your h-bridge. Something like the UCC27524A. This Tech Note describes how to configure an H-bridge. Good luck with your project!

  • Thank you Don.. I'm supposing without having looked closely yet that this EVM would solve the problem of bootstrapping.  It certainly seems suitable as the high-side gate driver.  After I've studied things further, I'll no doubt go ahead and order some of these, as well as the low-side drivers you suggested.  Thanks again.  james.
