LM5170: Suggestion on over rating scenario

Part Number: LM5170

Hi

LM5179 this device is used for battery learning machine products. The current application will over the max rating.

For HV, it will be 150V and for LV, it will be 120V. The peak voltage might up to 180V.

We would like to understand the risk if the input/output voltage are over the spec. Can the risk be manageable? There might have some risk on VIN, SW, CSACSB and BRKGBRSK pins, and we might have the solutions for VIN, CSACSB and BRKGBRSK pins. How about SW pin? Can SW pin be managed if input/output voltages are over the spec. ?

or is there any other device recommendation for the application? Thanks.

  • Hi Jack,

Please email the details of the application.  The LM5170's max ratings do not support the voltages.  You need external circuits: external driver for high side FET, and external current sense circuit to level shift down the signal to below the LM5170's current sense rating votlage.  SW should be grounded  and the HO will become the input signal for the external driver.

  • Hi Jack,

Can I assume the issue has been resolved?  I am going to close this thread here but you can re-open it by adding a new post.

    Thanks,
