BQ27441-G1: SoC oscillation during discharge

Dear e2e support,

My customer uses our gauge with a 2400mAh (small) battery and everything works as expected.

But using a 5200mAh (big) battery, the SoC during the discharge cycle, is oscillating (I can share some graph in PV).

If he keeps the different reg. (designcapacity, designenergy, etc...) from the small battery, the issue doesn't appear.

But once these reg are updated with the new parameters, the SoC is not anymore linear.

We've checked the smoothEN reg. It's set to 1 (OpConfigB=0x0F).

Any investigation we could do?

Regards,

  • Hello,

Yes if you could share some data that can be helpful. Can you log the data using bqStudio and share the results?

Is the correct gauge being used for the voltage of the new battery? (G1B vs G1A depending on the voltage of the new battery) This could cause errors in gauging because they are pre-programmed with specific battery chemistry characteristics.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hello,

For a more flexible gauge I would recommend switching to a flash based gauge so an ideal battery profile can be uploaded. With a ROM based gauge the profile loading in cannot be changed and makes the gauge harder to configure for some battery packs that don't fit the pre-loaded profile well.

    Sincerely,
