LP2985: line transient question

Part Number: LP2985

Hi team,

when using the LP2985IM5X-3.0 NOPB chip, when measuring the input and output waveforms, it will appear at the moment of the input voltage, and the output voltage will have a momentary overshoot.
Looking at the data sheet, it is found that the output overshoot will also appear when the input voltage is instantaneous. What causes this overshoot? Does the overshoot at the moment of power-on always occur every time? Is there a way to remove the overshoot or reduce the overshoot voltage?

  • Hi Dane,

Take a look at this app note, which describes the cause of overshoot on startup in LDOs and methods of reducing overshoot.

Unfortunately, for some devices you can never completely get rid of the overshoot. The reason for this is that during the design process there are many tradeoffs, and one of them is the bandwidth of the error amp, which plays a significant role in how quickly the LDO can respond and consequently, in this case, effects the magnitude of overshoot on startup.

    Best regards,

    Nick
